"Win a Trek TTX 9.9" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:44:40

I should be your poster child. I have traveled all over the US in the last six months on business. In each city I search out the local journey dealer and ask them how Madone sales are going. In Los Angeles. Phoenix. Las Vegas. Miami. Seattle. San Francisco they are thrilled with the new bikes and those that can get them in are running through them as quickly as they build them. Everybody seems to be getting bikes but I'm still waiting for my 5.5 in Logan. UT. Coulda had four from other locations but am sticking with my request. . wish I get it before the snow falls. Keep up the great work on raising the bar and before my 2300 comes apart. I just recevied my 2008 TTX9.9. WOW! It is one sweet looking go. It is very cold where I be alter now but I had to test ride it. I go a 2007 6.5 SSL and so I needed a comparison between the two bikes. I rode the same conjoin of road on both bikes at the same level of intensity. The TTX was at least 7-8 kilometers faster on the inclines. There is no disbelieve. I will end the hour in the 40k with my new ride. The question is by how much.

"In response to me being quoted in the TTX v. Technics thread..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 15:11:19

There undergo been three versions of the TTX series. The first TTX-1 was lighter gray. The later TTX-1 was darker. And now the TTX is similar in looks but adds some other features such as the DSP controlled clock and adjustable torque. I assume the TTX does not have a vibrating power give yes? You don’t get a hum when the beset rests on the record? Assuming that air from the TT-200 is not present and the electrical grounding issue on earliest TTX-1 lots is gone and the heating problem was fixed from the lighter gray TTX-1…My big issue with all the Numark tables is the tonearm. It cannot be serviced by an independent shop. Numark does not change surface repair these. They simply replace the entire thing whenever there is a problem. They do not recalibrate the antiskate replace bearings re-lubricate or anything else. The whole arm base has to go. It appears to have been an OEM design they bought the rights to that the swappable arm fit was tagged onto. Pretty much all they know how to do is put another one on and connect the wires and often they don’t even do that alter. Also. Numark has never done tracking error or azimuth alignment tests using a evaluate record and scope before. They told me this much and admitted they could not give any such specifications and results collected since they’ve never done it. Since the arm locate does not be to have been their design. I guess that makes sense from a shortcut standpoint but isn’t particularly reassuring. From my own tests and listening. I can tell you the fit and its bearings do not perform at the aim of standard gimbal designs let alone the nice ones used on Technics. Cartridges will bring in worse appear worse and skip more often on the Numark S-arm compared to most gimbal arms. They will also wear out or go dry sooner. This is further aggravated by the use of a fit that is actually aligned for the strait arm. The joint alignment is important to act the azimuth from wobbling slightly back and forth as the beset rides up and down in the groove. So the higher fidelity of the arms intended was obviously the S-arm yet you get an optimized joint alignment with the lower-fidelity strait-arm. The Numark platter is also too low or the tonearm is too high -- depending on how you be at it -- for Concord/Whitelabel-style integrated headshell carts to be properly level. Either you must use headshell-mountable carts live with a non-level tonearm (which is bad for the cart the records and the sound) or create a devise of mats/records underneath to raise the preserve up. I open that the beat way to do this is with the Neoprene mat on the furnish then a record I don't compassionate about that is completely unwarped then a cover Rug on top of that. It's a pain though. Certain short mountable carts also demand mini washers to get the same effect without the sandwich. This combined with the horror stories of not being able to find replacement parts for certain Numark tables and over time Numark (or customers) finding create by mental act defects that necessitate a new version of the table to be released again and again would compel me to buy the Technics instead…especially if you are mixing. If you want the Numark features enough obviously that could outweigh these other concerns. Aside from the possible parts availability air. I would think for strict scratching or digital vinyl emulation the TTX would work well. The Numarks can certainly sound good but the Technics arm will sound better overall appear exceed with less fuss last longer and be more easily serviceable. That would be more important to me. But I'm not a big scratcher so act that into account.
